Had a great day today. I finished up a week of coach training and spent the evening at a garden workshop, creating a terrarium (birthday gift from our kids). Ahead lies the awe-inspiring Easter weekend.
The next few days encompass one of the highlights of the Christian year. Oh the wonder of God being broken for us ... so that we can be made whole. In some parts of the world, people will harm themselves on Good Friday, as though Christ's pain was not enough for God. Some of us will fast and pray in remembrance of the sacrifice made on our behalf.
Then we'll have a day of reflection on Saturday. The quiet day. The day of waiting. The day to pause and consider how everything changes because of
Easter morning.
Hallelujah for the cross. And God be glorified in the resurrection. He makes all things new.
Hope you take time to ponder what was done for you. Who you are in God's eyes. Valued. Beloved. Cared for. Sought after. Washed whiter than snow. Given a new beginning in Christ. Holy. Acceptable to God.
I'm so grateful for Easter. What are some of your best memories about the celebration?

*[Jesus said:] “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved

my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands
and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you
and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved
you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down
one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if
you do what I command."

Moravian Prayer: Teacher,
friend, and Lord, as we gather in our own upper rooms today, we know
that your love is sure, though your way is not easy. Renew and nourish
our bodies and spirits to be your people. Amen.

Lent Day 24: Abundance
We don't always get what we expect. Sometimes we get ... MORE. Much more!
I've been looking for a wooden dollhouse for our granddaughter: she's been carrying around a few miniature furniture pieces and she organizes things. So I thought a dollhouse might be fun for her.
We never got a callback from the people with this one.
I was really disappointed. It looked like exactly what I wanted.
Today I browsed CL again. For half the price (and half the distance of travel), I saw something else:
The seller happily included TWO dollhouses (the small one on the right is like the original one; the big one is 2 1/2 feet tall!), furniture, dolls, stairs, a garage, a truck, and other extras ... for $25.
Once in a while, God pours such abundance on us that we shake our heads in wonder. Though this time was just a dollhouse (or two) for our little Miss K, I'm smiling at God's generosity.
Like every other blessing God pours out, this was undeserved. Unexpected. And completely cool. A little detail gone completely over-the-top.
All of us have memories of God's surprises. What favorite gift or occasion still reminds you of God's interest and love?

*Once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish. Isaiah 29:14 NIV
*[Jesus said,] "You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! …
"At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy." John 14:13–14; 16:23–24 NLT
*God added his testimony by signs and wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:4 NLT
Moravian Prayer: As we move through and reflect upon this day, O Creator of all, help us to notice all the wonders of your world and to remind others of those incredible gifts. Amen.

Lent Day 22: Everlasting and unchanging
Today everyone we met was smiling. The sun's out in Seattle and temperatures reached a high of 55oF. In March, that's considered a gift from heaven.
It's easy to believe in a good God when the sunshine is warming your shoulders. It may be more difficult to sense His love when circumstances feel out of control:
He knows it all. Controls it all. Is able to direct everything - beauty and chaos - without planets colliding or whirling off course into black holes of nothingness.
We are securely guided and guarded as long as we do His will. When we get off track, we may feel the consequences. Yet, returning to God with our whole hearts, we're promised His resources to direct our paths and give us wisdom.
With joy we celebrate the Lenten season and remember that God-Who-is-with-us is almightly.

*God himself is righteous and he justifies the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:26 NLT
*And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NKJV
Moravian Prayer: Help us to be so infused with your spirit, living Christ, that we will not just proclaim empty words but live as your followers. Challenge us by your example to act in ways that are kind, holy, loving, and just. Amen.
It's easy to believe in a good God when the sunshine is warming your shoulders. It may be more difficult to sense His love when circumstances feel out of control:
- When the baby's sick and you don't know what's wrong.
- When your teenager is out late without letting you know where s/he's gone.
- When those newlyweds seem to be clawing more than cooing and their marriage looks shaky.
- When the bills pile up and there seem to be too few resources.
- When the boss hands you a pink slip.
- When you (or your parents) feel the effects of age and infirmity.
- When all your plans fall apart and there's no Plan B for the future.
- Do you need the unfailing love and everlasting arms of God, your heavenly Father? He is strong enough to hold you. Kind enough to comfort you.
- Do you desperately need clarity for a murky situation? God sees a way through the darkness. Nothing is hidden from him.
- Do you need salvation from your brokenness? God provided One who became the sacrifice for our sins, the One who walked steadily toward the cross we will celebrate at Easter.
- Do you need power beyond your wildest imagination to solve a crisis? God created the world from nothing. He parted the Red Sea to provide escape for an entire nation. He broke a few loaves and divided a few fish to feed 5000 people. He promised us the resurrection power that brought Christ back to life.
With joy we celebrate the Lenten season and remember that God-Who-is-with-us is almightly.
